A guide to funeral financial assistance

If covering funeral costs is difficult, support may be available. The DWP can sometimes help with expenses, depending on circumstances. It’s important to speak with them before arrangements are confirmed.

If you have problems financing a funeral, speak to the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) immediately. This should be done before you confirm the funeral order with us. The DWP will only fund or contribute towards the cost of a funeral if the immediate family is unable to pay for the funeral and the potential claimants and their immediate family are in receipt of certain state benefits. The form required to make a claim from the Department for Work and Pensions is available at any DWP office, Jobcentre, or Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
