Simon was born in Aldershot and raised in Alton, Hampshire. He first joined the family business in 2003, working part-time as a chauffeur and bearer while studying at college, and later while completing his degree in Interior Architecture & Design at Leeds Metropolitan University. During this time, Simon continued to support Ford Mears during his holidays, and again after graduating in 2007.
In 2011, Simon chose to pursue his passion for design by establishing a bespoke furniture design and manufacturing business which he had been developing since his university years. He successfully operated the workshop for several years before deciding to close the manufacturing element in 2016, whilst retaining the active company. This allowed him to return to the family business and follow in the footsteps of his father, John Ford, and his father’s business partner, Tony Mears.
Since returning, Simon has brought a fresh, forward-looking perspective to the company, drawing on his design background, practical experience, and understanding of modern technologies. His input has supported ongoing improvements throughout the organisation, ensuring that Ford Mears continues to evolve while maintaining its trusted reputation and traditional values.
In recognition of his contribution, Simon was appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2019. Today, he works alongside his father, John Ford, his father’s long-standing business partner, Tony Mears, and Tony’s son, Matthew Mears, ensuring that the company remains family-led across two generations and continues to serve its local communities with care, dignity, and respect.
