Heart disease is the UK’s biggest killer, and lung disease affects one person in every seven.These are shocking figures, and these diseases affect people of all ages and from all walks of life. As world pioneers in research and treatment of heart and lung diseases, our hospitals treat babies born with heart problems, teenagers living with cystic fibrosis, adults with lung disease and individuals needing heart surgery and transplants – conditions that could affect any of us, or our families. Our surgical teams have been responsible for major breakthroughs, such as pioneering intricate heart surgery for new-born infants and leading the use of artificial hearts to save the lives of patients with end-stage heart failure. Our hospitals pride themselves on delivering the very best in treatment and patient care. ▼
