A eulogy or funeral speech is given at a funeral by someone who knew the person or read on behalf of the family.
It is the opportunity to pay tribute to the person about their life and what they meant.
The eulogy or speech is normally written in chronological order.
- Early life – when born, who parents are/were, school life etc
- How they met their husband, wife, or partner
- Working life – career
- Family life – children, grandchildren, holidays
- Hobbies etc
- Memorable occasions
- Later life
Some people like to make the eulogy light-hearted by conveying stories or memories received from family members and friends or even memories received in messages since the person passed away.
If unsure what to say and how to say it, speak to the people important to the person. Make it a family thing to ensure the person story is told correctly and in the manner the person who has passed away would appreciate.
At the end of the eulogy/speech there is the opportunity to thank the people who have cared for the person or who have helped.
