Matt was born in Basingstoke and raised in Alton, Hampshire. In 2013, he began his career in his father’s business, working part-time as a bearer during college holidays while studying Business Studies at Alton College. He continued to balance his work commitments with his academic pursuits, earning a degree in Marketing with Psychology from the University of Portsmouth.
Upon graduating in 2019, Matt joined Ford Mears on a full-time basis. He initially resumed his role as a chauffeur and bearer, gaining valuable experience across various company offices before transitioning into arranging and conducting funerals. Over the years, Matt immersed himself in all aspects of the business, actively identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and integrate innovative technologies.
In recognition of his expertise, dedication, and contribution to the company’s continued development, Matt was appointed to the Board of Directors in December 2024. Today, he works alongside his father, Tony Mears, and fellow directors including John Ford and Simon Ford, ensuring that Ford Mears continues to serve local families with care, respect, and professionalism for generations to come.
